We're making a sustainable difference, one bed at a time

Sustainability has been at the heart of Bed-Stay from the very beginning — driving every decision, from materials to transport.

It all started in 2015, when Gorinchem, in the Netherlands, faced a housing shortage for refugees. Peter Vogel, who knew a thing or two about tents, devised a clever solution: building enclosed beds out of leftover warehouse materials, complete with curtains for privacy. That's how the Bed-Stay concept was born.

From the very start, we've designed our beds to be reused again and again as temporary, private structures, making a real difference for the environment and all sorts of people in all sorts of places.

Our Sustainable Practises in Action

100% Dutch design — Our beds are proudly produced in the Netherlands, sourcing components within the EU. With Dutch design heritage and expertise in events and engineering, we combine innovation with sustainability, continuously improving to meet the highest standards.

We’re ISO 9001 and 14001 certified — We guarantee consistent quality in our products and services and a minimised environmental footprint through responsible resource management.

Our product life cycle is very long — Our beds are built to last and designed for multiple years of use without needing replacement, making them exceptionally sustainable.

We upcycle sails to give them a second life — When repairs aren’t feasible, we repurpose damaged sails into storage bags for the beds. These bags are protected during transport in plastic crates, ensuring durability and sustainability. Additionally, we are exploring cradle-to-cradle recycling solutions for sail materials.

We give plastic couplings a second life — Made from recycled plastic, our couplings have a low 1% failure rate, usually due to improper assembly. Instead of discarding broken parts, we repurpose them as foot supports for headboards, reducing waste and new production. All major bed components, including PVC-covered polyester and Forex, are fully recyclable.

Locally made, smartly packed, and sustainably delivered — Our beds are locally designed and made, built for maximum transport efficiency, eliminating the need for imports from China and reducing CO₂ emissions. By compactly packing up to 200 beds per truck and 500 per plane, we minimise trips and transport as little air as possible. Components are designed to fit within 230cm for optimal loading in trucks and containers, while tailored packaging — using plastic and steel frames — ensures efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable delivery.

We ensure 24-hour availability of beds at various locations in Europe — With locations across Europe, we source your bed locally, reducing transportation and its environmental footprint.

We design for comfort and sustainability — We refine our bed designs for maximum comfort and efficiency. Smaller, heat-retaining beds reduce fossil fuel heating, benefiting both users and the planet.

We’re your sustainability partner — We inspire our partners to join us in making a sustainable difference across the value chain.

100% Dutch design — Our beds are proudly produced in the Netherlands, sourcing components within the EU. With Dutch design heritage and expertise in events and engineering, we combine innovation with sustainability, continuously improving to meet the highest standards.
